The Many Clouds

While
the earth of the desert twinkles monotonously and changelessly mile
after mile, with gravel and the dark network of dry creosote bushes,
the sky stretches over it a reign of overwhelming, unshakable but
temperamental power. And on those days when into the intense and
endless blue sail the giants of the sky - the desert thunderheads - it
is as if a mighty, unknown world has opened out above, with its
own language of wind, light and space. We small strangers peer
upward into the next sphere...
